(from a Trulia question) I love this question! Because it doesn’t matter! (at least very little to the "consumer") It matters a great deal to the agent.
If it mattered at all, then Remax would be losing business as they are slipping out of the top 5 in the country, and Keller Williams would be getting almost all of the business due to the meteroric rise (actually in some states this is exactly what is happening). Perhaps every listing would be Coldwell, Prudential, C21 or ERA since they combined are the largest.
MOST agents are independent contractors and utilize what their company has to offer very little. Do you want to work with an agent that values a "name brand" over service? How about an agent that works for a company that is failing and spends its marketing dollars on it’s own brand recognition instead of the agents it works for?
These are all more philosophical questions for the agent not for the home seller.
All companies are NOT created equal, but they all offer virtually NOTHING to the client that can’t be provided through the agent. (i.e., Training, web applications, billboards…ect)
Look at the discount brokers, they have arguably the most marketing points of any marketing plan I have ever seen…. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION – all of the items they list are AUTOMATIC!
Simply getting your home on the MLS, will get the home populated to MOST websites!
Let me get back to the point, it all comes down to the agent, their business plan, their experience.
I openly challenge anyone to tell me that their COMPANY AFFILIATION HELPED THEM SELL A HOME TO A BUYER – buyer’s don’t care whose sign is in the yard, and neither should you!
Bottomline: A company can help an agent, but a company does not help the seller.
